Brain Drain™

  • You’re in perimenopause or approaching it and your brain doesn’t feel like yours anymore

  • You have ADHD or suspect you do, and the cognitive load has become unsustainable

  • You find yourself searching for words mid-sentence — words you know

A facial acupuncture treatment for brain fog, word-finding difficulty, and cognitive fatigue. Available at Well Collab Acupuncture in Ossining, Westchester.

You know the feeling.

You reach for a word and it’s not there. You walk into a room and forget why. You finish a sentence and lose the thought before you reach the period.

Stress, perimenopause, the passage of time, your particular neurotype… there are myriad reasons to experience these symptoms.

This treatment was designed for you if…

  • You feel mentally foggy even after sleep

  • You’re carrying so much that your head feels physically heavy

  • You’ve been told everything is “fine” but something is clearly not fine

Brain Drain™ is safe for migraines and high blood pressure. It is not recommended during pregnancy. If you’re looking for a facial treatment that is safe during pregnancy, our Signature Feminist Facial was designed with you in mind.

What is Brain Drain™?

Brain Drain™ is a 90-minute facial treatment combining cosmetic acupuncture and therapeutic gua sha, specifically designed to support the brain’s natural waste clearance system through the face and neck.

Your brain clears itself through a network of pathways that exit through the skull base and drain through the lymphatics of the face and neck. When those pathways are obstructed — by chronic tension, inflammation, tissue stagnation, or the sustained physical load of stress — that clearance slows down. The fog sets in. The words get harder to find. The head feels heavy.

Brain Drain™ works the facial and cervical lymphatic pathways that serve as the brain’s drainage route, creating the conditions for the brain’s own clearance system to do its job. Gua sha and TCM medical massage physically moves lymph through those channels. Acupuncture regulates the nervous system so the channels stay open between sessions.

Neither mechanism does alone what they do together.

While relaxing, this is not a relaxation facial. It is a clinical treatment that happens to also make your face look remarkable.

The science is real.

In June 2025, a landmark study published in Nature mapped a previously unknown drainage pathway from the brain through the lymphatic vessels of the face and neck, and demonstrated that gentle mechanical stimulation of those vessels can restore drainage that has declined with age. The researchers built a device to do what therapeutic gua sha has done for centuries.

A concurrent study demonstrated that manual lymphatic drainage of the head and neck improved cognitive function and reduced neurofilament light chain — a biomarker for neurological stress — in Alzheimer’s disease research models.

Brain Drain™ is the only facial treatment in Westchester built on this research.

RESEARCH NOTE

Jin et al. (2025). Increased CSF drainage by non-invasive manipulation of cervical lymphatics. Nature, 643, 755–767.

Brain Drain™ is an observational clinical practice, not a medical treatment. It does not treat, prevent, or cure neurological conditions.

What happens in a session?

We begin with therapeutic scalp massage and the first pass of gua sha along specific acupuncture channel — drainage routes that runs from face to the base of your skull. This opens the tissue before anything else begins.

Manual work on the neck and face, routing lymphatic fluid into the cranial drainage network rather than the conventional, downward way.

A precision point protocol including scalp points, body points for fluid metabolism and grounding, and local facial points.

Needles out with a final tracing of the drainage route. Low-suction facial cupping to complete the lymphatic sequence. You leave feeling lighter than you came in — in ways that are difficult to describe until you’ve experienced it.

This treatment is part of an active research project.

Brain Drain™ is the clinical foundation of a 12-week observational research cohort currently in development at Well Collab Acupuncture. The cohort tracks cognitive function, sleep quality, and tissue change over a series of treatments, using validated cognitive scales, Oura ring sleep data, and standardized photography.

If you’re interested in participating in the cohort when it opens, you can join the waitlist.

Cohort participants receive a reduced session rate in exchange for data collection participation.
