The Well
Once a month, I go down the well and show you what I found.
What’s Inside
I think about things that affect the intellectual work I do professionally a lot, but unfortunately for me I also think about things recreationally. (Jk jk, I love thinking.)
I notice patterns. I make connections between things that don't initially appear to have anything to do with each other. I get stuck on questions. I argue with books. I think out loud. I follow an idea until it either falls apart or shows me something I couldn't see before.
And this is not a professional hat I put on when I'm treating someone or writing about Chinese medicine.
This is just how I think.
So I made somewhere you can have more of it.
Once a month, I'll send you a substantial edition of The Well: what I've been thinking about, what I've pulled out of it, the smaller things I can't stop noticing, the fights currently happening in my head, and one question I am genuinely asking myself.
Here's what I hope happens:
You start because you want to know what I'm thinking. Maybe there's even a little voyeurism in it — of course there is. We all want the tea. You want to see what happens when I take something from my actual life and follow it all the way down.
But somewhere in there what always happens is that it becomes widely applicable. If I thought I was looking at the strength of the structures, what I was actually looking at was the effectiveness of my compensation — and then I pan back out and view that structurally. So now, neither of us are thinking about the anecdote from my life that brought this thought process on.
Now you’re thinking: oh shit, what am I exceptionally good at compensating for?
That's the part I love.
You come for access to my brain. Eventually, you find part of yourself in there.
Listen, I regularly spend $7 on a half-caf oat latte. I’d totally spend ten bucks a month to get inside a brain that helps me see my own differently.
