Face Value

An ongoing investigation of the face.

What do we actually know about our faces? And how much of what we think we know have we simply been taught to believe?

Face Value is where anatomy, emerging research, clinical observation, and cultural critique meet.

From the mechanics of facial expression to the physiology of aging, from lymphatic pathways to the beauty industry's claims, I follow the questions that arise when I look a little closer. When I question the status quo. When I pan back and wonder: Why is the beauty industry worth hundreds of billions of dollars, and whose dollars are they?

Essays, research, observations, and the occasional rabbit hole. Some answers, more questions, and an evolving understanding of the faces we live in.
